PETER PAN - SHOW AUDITIONS

Our next school show is Peter Pan to be held at the Civic Hall, Trowbridge during week commencing Sunday 25th March 2012.

Auditions for character roles are going to be held on Saturday 12th Nov at Roundstone School, Trowbridge. Please be prepared to do ballet, tap and modern at the audition but don’t worry if you don’t take lessons in all genres!

Tap shoes will not be required for the audition. Please come along at the specified time:

1.00-1.45 pm - Grade 1-2 (Ballet, tap or modern)
2.00-2.45 pm - Grade 3-4 (Ballet, tap or modern)
3.00-3.45 pm - Grade 5 up (Ballet, tap or modern)

We are looking for John, Michael, Wendy, Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Mr & Mrs Darling, Nanna, Tinkerbell, Mr Smee, Tiger Lily, Crocodile & Lost Boys. Please note all characters will be needed for the whole of the show so this could be quite late, and will need to be available for all rehearsals. Rehearsals will generally be on a Saturday at Roundstone, but characters should be prepared to go to all branches ie Bradford, Bratton, Derry Hill and Holt to rehearse with groups as required.

PLEASE only audition if you are able and prepared to put the hours in to the role. Main rehearsals will be at Trowbridge and will include Saturdays. We will only have 11 weeks to put this show together so we cannot afford to have children missing. We also plan to hold rehearsals over the February half-term week.

THERE WILL BE NO LESSONS ON SATURDAY 12TH NOVEMBER FROM 1PM ONWARDS BECAUSE OF THE AUDITIONS.

THE EXCEPTION IS GRADE 3 BALLET WHICH WILL BE 4.15-5.00PM

FEES AND FUTURE DATES

Dear Parents

We are unfortunately going to be increasing fees from September 2011. New fees will be as follows:
½ hour class - £26.00 per term
¾ hour class - £30.00 per term
1 hour class - £34.00 per term
2 x 1 hour class (Grade 3 ballet & up) - £50.00 per term

We are also introducing a new discount from September 20 11 of 10% off the total bill if your child dances 2 or more disciplines.  We will still be offering the 10% discount for 2 or more siblings dancing from the same family.  You will however only be able to have one discount of 10%.

We do hope that you agree that we are still offering very good value for money.

Future Events

October Half-Term Days of Dance
We would like to hold 3 days of Dance (similar to the one held in 2008) during October half-term. This would involve guest teachers coming in to teach the children different dance genres. We would anticipate the cost to be approx £60 for the 3 days of dance.  This event would be open to Grade 1 and above in any genre. If your child is interested please let their teacher know so we can see if the event would be worth organising.

Show 2012
we have provisionally booked the Civic Hall, Trowbridge for a school show for the last week of March 2012. Please keep this week free!

SHOW REHEARSALS : SUNDAY 20TH JUNE AT THE CIVIC HALL, TROWBRIDGE

These rehearsals are very important please do your very best to attend. It provides an opportunity for everyone to have a go on the stage before the show. Unfortunately because of the limited availability of the Civic Hall this is the only opportunity the children will have to rehearse on stage before the actual shows. Times for the rehearsals are as follows:

12.45-1.45pm Show A – plus Spiders
2.00-2.30pm Show B – plus Stars
2.30-3.45pm Show C – plus Chinese, Keys, Scarecrow
4.00-5.50pm Grade 3 and above ballet, tap & modern

If you have any queries please contact your child’s teacher. Also if you are CRB checked and would be happy to chaperone at any of the shows then please pass your details on to your child’s teacher.

Many thanks for your continued support.

 TERM DATE CHANGE

Term will commence on Saturday 17th April not on Monday 19th as per your invoice. This is because we need to get rehearsal time in for Thrive, free festival of dance, which is being held in Trowbridge Park on Saturday 1st May.  There will be no classes at Morphew on this day as a lot of the school will be performing at this event. If your child is not available to dance on this day please let Miss Gill or Miss Kate know as soon as possible.

 2010 DANCE SHOW INFORMATION

The Civic Hall is due to close on July 11th 2010 for a complete refurbishment which will take approximately 18 months. With this refurbishment in mind we have therefore managed to book the Civic Hall for a show from Tuesday 29th June until Thursday 1st July 2010.

The aim of the show is to say goodbye to the old hall and also to celebrate Mrs Pearce being Principal of Morphew for the last 21 years. (Morphew has in fact been established in Trowbridge for 58 years now!) We have decided to re-create dances from the last 10 shows – which have spanned 20 years.

Because of the large number of pupils in the school we will be producing 3 separate shows, each night will be a slightly different show. The younger children will only be dancing on one night. You will be informed after Easter which show/s your child will be dancing in.

It is really important that the staff know WHEN WE START TO REHEARSE how many children are in the dance – for placings and also for costumes.  Could you please therefore complete the slip downloadable from the link at the bottom of this item and return it to your child’s dance teacher, so we know your intentions.  Also if you have not returned your pupil registration form and photo policy, we need these as soon as possible. Your child will not be able to participate in the show without us having these forms.

There will be one rehearsal at the Civic Hall on the afternoon of Sunday 20th June – so please keep this date free. There is also a vague possibility that we may be able to extend the show to the Friday and Saturday (2nd & 3rd July) – all dependent on how well England do in the World Cup!!  So please indicate below if your child would be available then if necessary!

Any queries please see your child’s teacher.

WIZARD OF OZ

SPONSORSHIP - We would like to offer you the opportunity to sponsor our school show The Wizard of Oz which is taking place from 25th-28th March 2009. Money received from sponsorship will help us to costume the show which with well over 400 children is a mammoth task.  For a minimum donation of £20 we will display your name/company name/business name on a sponsors board in the Civic Hall foyer during performances. We will also have a sponsors page on our website.  If you know of anyone or are yourself prepared to sponsor us then please see your child’s dance teacher.  All donations (including smaller ones) will be very gratefully received. As usual we will be donating any profit from the show to local charities.

CHAPERONES - we will need chaperones to help backstage with the children. We are sorry but we can only have people who are CRB checked.  If you are willing to help please let your child’s teacher know and please let them have your CRB number.  We can then draw up a rota.

STAGE CREW – We will also probably need help backstage with back cloths etc. (This could be heavy work!) If you are interested then please see Miss Gill

MAKE-UP – We will be using make-up for most of the dances so if you have any problems with this please let your dance teacher know in writing.

REHEARSALS & SHOW SCHEDULES
If your child is Nursery to Grade 2 level they will be dancing in 2 shows, one week day and one Saturday show. Grade 3s and above dance all 6 shows. If you have trouble deciphering the table overleaf then please see your child’s dance teacher! The show will be filmed for all 3 performances on the Saturday. If your child is unable to dance in their scheduled performance please let their teacher know as it may make a difference to the staging of the dance.

We would like to hold some rehearsals in half-term week on Wednesday 18th February as this provides an ideal opportunity for different groups to practise together.  We appreciate that this is a holiday but it would really benefit the children to dance together so please do your best to attend. As usual we will be donating any profit from the show to local charities.

 Newsletter - 8th January 2007

Welcome back to what will be a very busy term.

Our show will be week commencing March 25th at the Civic Hall in Trowbridge. Children under Grade 3 will take part in 2 performances, your teacher will give you details of which shows your child will be taking part in nearer the time. Please do your very best not to miss classes this term as every lesson will be vital as time is so short. Please also return the video consent form quickly so the paperwork side of things can be sorted out as soon as possible. If you have lost the release/order forms, you can download them below in PDF format. Please ensure they are completed and returned to your dance teacher BY THE END OF JANUARY 2007.

Over the Christmas break, the school's website has been set up. Please do have a look and feel free to sign the guest book or email with suggestions and contributions. The site can be found at www.morphewschoolofdance.co.uk.

We said goodbye to Miss Heidi at the end of last term she has been with Morphew for 40 or so years firstly as a pupil then as teacher and head of ballet. We wish her well in her new career. If you didn’t get a chance to say goodbye she will hopefully be making an appearance at the show. Miss Linda has now taken over the Derry Hill branch and we also wish her well. The staff would like to thank you for all their cards, presents and good wishes and wish you all a very happy 2007.
